Wow, ed. and Chris - great insight! I've been listening to this song for years, and never really read the lyrics. The song had me at 'playing bass under a pseudonym'! This exposes - and clears up a lot. I LOVE literate, self-revealing lyrics! This song has it all.

After lunch, meditate on the fact that 25% of the universe is not conventional matter but dark matter, 70% of the universe is comprised of dark energy (no one knows that that is), and only 5% is made up of matter and energy as we experience them directly. Consider that our knowledge of the existence of dark matter and energy is entirely the result of the rational mind making reasonable conjectures from observed data, and that we both know it must exist, and yet cannot observe it except through its effects on things we can observe. In short, most of reality is experienced through mathematical hypothesis and scientific imagination - it can only be seen by our minds, and not by our eyes. Now it's time for dinner.

I was doing a search for the Samuelson article (thank you for linking it!) because I know who the engineer is: Kirk Sorensen (formerly of NASA). He discussed writing the letter in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-uxvSVIGtU from last year in which he announced that he started a company (Flibe Energy) to make Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactors (LFTR).
