Right: Friends eating cake at my son's birthday party. He shares a chair (right) with his best buddy. These are two guys who really understand "Rescue Heroes."

Left: Can a person become so cute that she explodes? Watch out world.

Right: Burning the last pieces of bread on the day before Passover, Erev Pesach, 2002, with my son and a friend. Someone asked me if I was angry in this picture. No, I'm not angry at all! I'm just lighting a match to burn the last bread before Passover starts.

Left: Reunion of high school friends at Steve and Becky's house, at a party Steve held for Dave Rabb our athletic coach - Standing, from left, are Craig Lebow, Dave Rabb (the guest of honor), Eric Pinczower, Bret Wagner, Steve Levan, and in front, Russell Levan, Evon Hochstein, Miles Hochstein and son. Dave Rabb played an important role in our lives 25 or more years ago, particularly around Junior High school. It was a real pleasure to see him again, still making the same damn jokes and still cracking us up with them, together with our children now. What an irrepressible and great guy!

2002 is gone, but this is what I said about it when it was here.

"2002 is here. We are in the thick of it, living, growing, shrinking... whatever it takes. We'll let you know what it all meant if we ever figure it out. For now, I'll just say that raising children is like wading through molasses - it's sticky, slow and exhausting, but nonetheless sweet." (2002).

Begins New Life in PDX

Above: We stand on the steps of our yellow and purple rented house in Southeast Portland on a sunny late summer day. We finally got around to the official "we are here now" photo, three weeks after our arrival.

The months passed quickly from August to December of 2002. In about October 2002 I wrote

"How do I feel about living in Oregon after two months? Good, in every way. I love this place and my life here. What an improvement. One nice thing about Portland is that I don't really need the above driver license very often - I actually take the bus and use my bike to get around. It is as if we have moved to a civillized country from an uncivillized backwater. Public Transportation - what a concept!" (2002)
