Documented Life     An Autodocumentary     Miles Hochstein

In the photo above I'm keeping them laughing as I make some off-the-cuff remarks to the Hollywood High Alternative School at our graduation ceremony in Griffith Park, spring 1977. I wonder what I said? I think I was pretty good at making an off-the-cuff speech at age 17.

Above: Grad night at Disneyland (Frontier Land!) with my girlfriend Helaina.

People sometimes ask me (I think it's an implied question!) "Oh my God, you even have pictures of old girlfriends on your web site?" For a variety of reasons, accidental and intentional, I have many pictures of old friends, including, as seen here, my highschool girlfriend Helaina, who was very important to me, even if I was probably a rather annoying boyfriend. Of course I didn't know how important she was to me when this picture was taken. I only figured that out after we had separated and gone to college. But for the record Helaina and my wife Leora have met, and they like each other. And for what it is worth, I, they and others have each observed that Helaina and Leora have remarkably similar voices, and both might be described as relatively short Jewish women of keen intelligence. We've all pondered the similarities and laughed.

In September 1977 (below) I became a freshman at Reed College, in Portland, Oregon. I felt pretty good about the guy in that picture.
